Suzuki has come out swinging for the year 2006 in their efforts to piece larger than 600cc road bike market with a new all-GSX R600 that jumped in front of his predecessors.
Suzuki engineers left no bolt untouched in their efforts to create a middle class of their latest and greatest the best it can, and those changes have been firmly put GSX-R back in the hunt as opposed to best in class. After spending time at Phillip Island with many engineers who treat this latest product as their own baby I’m very excited to see how passionate they are about their children. And while engineers from any country who mostly could be a lot of very strange boffins Suzuki of Japan is very funny dudes right and there is never too much time in between laughs, while in their company.
That’s a laugh obviously come to them easily, as a good time to Suzuki. More than 67 000 GSX-R down from last year’s Hamamatsu factory, which has taken a number of sales close to the GSX-R 700 000! GSX-R1000 model currently has repeatedly been named the dog in the war on liter bikes since the beginning. Meanwhile liter engine sees only minor revisions for new model year, the company has produced all of the new Superbike competitors in an effort to grab a top dog moniker that category as well.
While the new machine, it remains the same 67 x 42.5 childbirth and stroke dimensions as before. Interestingly this is identical with the latest Honda CBR600RR and Yamaha YZF, R6. Yamaha does have a different bore and stroke earlier but it was the consensus for all their new models in 2006. Kawasaki ZX-6RR also utilize the proper dimensions, which means that the four Japanese middleweights 599.4cc they produce exactly the same way. Spooky huh?
Suzuki has changed the layout of the crank shaft and transmission, however, and as a result has managed to shorten the overall length by 54mm machine significantly. Cylinder pitch has been reduced from 80mm to 76mm, which makes powerplant 16mm narrower overall. Along with a 20mm reduction in height was made for a very compact package.
Interestingly, the inertia of the forged steel crankshaft by 16% in an effort to better traction characteristics on the performance limits.
