Introduced in 1965, Harley-Davidson FL Electra Glide is equipped with the latest Harley Panhead engine and car first big HD with electric start. Conversion to electric starter also means an electronic upgrade to the 12-volt unit that replaced the previous system of 6-volt. HD Electra Glide is initially offered with an optional carry-over features such as dual-exhaust system and hand-shift/foot-clutch settings. Nineteen sixty-five is also the first year that the script Electra Glide motorcycle adorned the front bumper. ”
With a combination of classic styles, the Big Twin engine, six-gallon grease tank, floor boards, hard bags, and lots of chrome trim, the Electra Glide is a classic Harley motorcycle tour. Over the years, Electra Glide performance continues to evolve. In the year 2008, HD touring models became available with Brembo brakes and, independent manual ABS system. Electronic Throttle Control also introduced in ’08. In 2009, Electra Glide, along with all Harley-Davidson motorcycle tours, receive a new chassis. That, stamped and welded single-piece frame that Harley used for three decades was replaced by throwing a single-spar frames, rigid-backbone.
The Electra Glide now features Bat Wing fork-mounted touring fairing, rubber mounted 1584cc Twin Cam 96 engine, and the saddle bag is locked. To FLHTC Electra Glide Classic, Motor Company added more tour comfort, such as the Tour-Pak cargo system, 40-watt Advanced Audio System by Harmon / Kardon, plus additional fender and saddlebag trim.
